Nationwide Workshop
Political education in prison – concepts and approaches in the
treatment of Islamist and right-wing extremist ideologies
June 8, 2018, in Berlin
aufBruch, German partner of PROVA Project, participated in the nationwide Workshop Political Education in Prison – Concepts and Approaches in the Processing of Islamist and Right-Wing Extremist Ideologies and was represented at the Workshop Praxisfeld 3 – Culture and Politics by Holger Syrbe.
Dealing with inhuman ideologies is a central issue in the prison system. Also, because prisons are sometimes considered as places of recruitment and radicalization. This applies to right-wing as well as Islamist scenes.
The field of civic education in prison includes different approaches and concepts in the prevention and deradicalization of these phenomena.
Within the framework of the special subject Political Education in Prison – Concepts and Approaches in the Processing of Islamist and Right-Wing Extremist Ideologies,
approaches, concepts and experiences of political education work on the topics of right-wing extremism and Islamism in prisons will be discussed.
In particular, the following questions are at the center:
– What are the intersections, but also differences, in the prevention and deradicalisation of Islamist and right-wing extremist ideologies?
– What approaches and concepts are behind the different projects in the work with prisoners? What role does political education play in this?
– Are approaches and projects transferable from one to the other? Is there a common field of action to counter the different ideologies?
– How can educational processes in prisons be made sustainable and different target groups included?
Location: VKU Forum, Invalidenstraße 91, 10115 Berlin
